Your Benjarong culinary journey will not be complete without trying our Som Tam or Thai Papaya Salad, one of our guests’ favourite dish at the restaurant.

The ingredients are not very hard to find and it’s a very quick and easy type of dish to make at home. Want to know how to make your own Som Tam? Get the recipe here!

Ingredients:

  • 1 & 1/2 cup papaya, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup carrots, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 red chili
  • 1/4 cup peanuts, half crushed and half whole
  • 1 tablespoon Thai fish sauce
  • 3 tablespoons tamarind sauce
  • 1/4 cup sliced cherry tomatoes, cut in half
  • 1 tablespoon palm sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1/4 cup green beans

Directions:

Using a large-sized pestle and mortar, crush the garlic together with the teared chillies to release all the flavours. Toss all the remaining ingredients one by one while pounding until they are well mixed and coated with the sauces.  You can add more chilli, fish sauce, tamarind sauce and lime juice to taste. Leave half of the peanuts (whole) for garnish.
